Missions: The Heart of the Church

“For so the Lord has commanded us, saying, ‘I have made you a light for the Gentiles, that you may bring salvation to the ends of the earth.’” – Acts 13:47

Why is Missions such an important ministry at FBC Lyons?

  • The Bible says so

Jesus spoke often of caring for the widows and orphans and to focus on the things not of this earth. In Acts, the church is formed around making disciples and multiplying to the ends of the earth. As much as a building can feel like home, the church is God’s people, not a building. Reaching out to those who don’t know Him and serving “the least of these” is God’s heartbeat.

MISSIONS MINISTRIES SHOULD GUIDE AND EQUIP BELIEVERS TO REACH THOSE THAT DON’T KNOW JESUS

  • Missions will impact the health of the church

A healthy church is one that is reaching out into the community, the state, the country and even the world to seek out the lost and weary. Missions not only is about bringing more people in, but is as much about growing members spiritually.

DISCIPLING ALL GENERATIONS WILL ADD TO THE HEALTH OF THE CHURCH AND ITS MEMBERS.

  • Missions are the very nature of God

By His very nature God is a “sending God” who takes the initiative to redeem His creation. Because the church is comprised of the “sent” people of God, the church is the instrument of God’s mission in the world. Missions is an instrument of the church, a means by which the church is grown. Oftentimes Christians frequently say, “The church has a mission.” A better view, however, would be “the mission has a church” and we want to be that church. A church willing to Pray. A church willing to Go. A church willing to Send.

When a church is on Mission it is then the true church.
