Do you enjoy singing or play a musical instrument? We would love to get you started on the journey to Sunday praise and worship.
PURPOSE:
The purpose of music ministry at our church is to glorify God! Our hope is that the music service is a time that helps to turn the affections of the believer to treasure the God of the universe through the preaching of His word!
Since music is not primary at our church and does not replace preaching, music style is not the focus of our music ministry. It is our desire to make much of who God is and to assist the worshiper in biblical thinking about the only One who is worthy of any worship. Our ministerial staff is carefully and constantly reviewing the lyrics of our songs. If it glorifies God above all and is consistent with scripture, then we will attempt to use it. We seek to bring our faith family together without distraction for corporate praise of the Most High God!
Notable quotes:
Above all sing spiritually. Have an eye to God in every word you sing. Aim at pleasing Him more than yourself, or any other creature. In order to do this attend strictly to the sense of what you sing, and see that your heart is not carried away with the sound, but offered to God continually; so shall your singing be such as the Lord will approve here, and reward you when he cometh in the clouds of heaven. – John Wesley
There is a difference between going to a service “‘for the worship” and going to a service “to worship the Lord.” The distinction appears to be a minor one, but it may imply the difference between the worship of God and the worship of music! – Sinclair Ferguson
Scriptures
Psalm 95:1-7a:
Oh come, let us sing to the Lord; let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation!
2 Let us come into his presence with thanksgiving; let us make a joyful noise to him with songs of praise!
3 For the Lord is a great God, and a great King above all gods.
4 In his hand are the depths of the earth; the heights of the mountains are his also.
5 The sea is his, for he made it, and his hands formed the dry land.
6 Oh come, let us worship and bow down; let us kneel before the Lord, our Maker!
7 For he is our God, and we are the people of his pasture, and the sheep of his hand.
2 Chronicles 29:25-28
25 And he stationed the Levites in the house of the Lord with cymbals, harps, and lyres, according to the commandment of David and of Gad the king’s seer and of Nathan the prophet, for the commandment was from the Lord through his prophets. 26 The Levites stood with the instruments of David, and the priests with the trumpets. 27 Then Hezekiah commanded that the burnt offering be offered on the altar. And when the burnt offering began, the song to the Lord began also, and the trumpets, accompanied by the instruments of David king of Israel. 28 The whole assembly worshiped, and the singers sang, and the trumpeters sounded. All this continued until the burnt offering was finished.29 When the offering was finished, the king and all who were present with him bowed themselves and worshiped. 30 And Hezekiah the king and the officials commanded the Levites to sing praises to the Lord with the words of David and of Asaph the seer. And they sang praises with gladness, and they bowed down and worshiped.
